Reflection

Throughout the semester I have noticed a trend with sustainability, conservation and our environment. Unless it is profitable, we aren’t going to do it. This fact really aggravates me, because what good is our money going to be in a decade when we can’t survive on our plant?
As I already mention in a previous article, Ralph Nader says, “The use of solar energy has not been opened up because the oil industry does not own the sun.” It won’t be possible for us to create a sustainable environment until it is profitable to the large corporations. Also brought up in the article read for class, There Will Be Water, one person thinks it’s ok to profit off of a natural water source. Let’s just take a look at FPL. They want to charge us for solar power, and for wind power. Yes I understand that they paid for the things to be installed and what not, but why isn’t there just a one time fee that we pay and that’s that? Who are they, who are these people to profit off natural resources? They make it impossible to make it affordable to middle class Americans to live sustainable life styles. I noticed that the a lot of congress men and big political people started in these big oil companies and other things. These are the same people that are making our laws. They say that our votes count… when then why did we go to war with the majority of people didn’t want go, why did the bail out plan pass when most people said, “to the hell with them.” Why are middle class Americans who can barely afford to live a comfortable life style have to pay taxes and the multimillion dollar companies aren’t paying a cent, yet getting millions back in tax returns? Why do the congressmen get free health care for life after only serving a year in congress and they don’t have to pay taxes. The rich people don’t pay anything and live off the taxes of the poor who can barely survive? This issue makes me sick. Money talks and bullshit walks and that’s it. Until these people pull their heads out of the sand it will be impossible to live a sustainable life.
